The Pool:

The Carmody pool (previously lined with vinyl) has been re-surfaced with Oyster Quartz (a fine-grained aggregate finish). The lane-lines are done in 2-inch tiles, and the interfaces between the tile and the Oyster Quartz are perfectly flush and smooth. The protruding vents have been removed from the pool bottom. The Oyster Quartz itself is a bit rough on the skin (worse than tile, but better than the average aggregate bottom (Marsite, Gunite, etc.). The green Aussie puck is playable on this bottom, but after our first couple of practices, we decided it was too slow for our liking. Our engineering department has developed several proto-type pucks with brass slider plates that are positively 'lively' on this bottom, while adhering to all current WAA puck-specification requirements for size and weight. I am confident that we will ultimately have pucks for the tournament that play faster and more consistently on this bottom than the Canadian Oreo used to on our vinyl bottom. As we continue to experiment with puck designs, I will add video of our practices and puck trials to our webpage and post links so that you can see for yourselves.

Lodging:

The official tournament hotel will be the Lakewood Holiday Inn (this is the same hotel we used in 2006 and 2007, although it has had a bit of a face lift: it is looking very nice and modern with a new sports bar/lounge/restaurant area, spacious banquet facilities, etc.). Group rate is $69/night plus tax. King rooms and double-queen rooms are both available, with occupancy up to 5 people/room. The hotel will provide breakfast and shuttles to the pool, as they have done for us in the past. To make your reservation at the group rate, mention 'Denver Underwater Hockey' and reserve by DECEMBER 9th!

There WILL be a dance floor and music. Banquet Tickets cost $25 each. Make checks payable to Philip Hickey and send to:

Let's go Skiing! Let us know when/where you want to ski and we'll make it happen. Many of us have season passes to various resorts, so we can get you heavily discounted buddy-pass lift tickets. We can do trips both before and after the tournament, so plan your travel accordingly.
